Tangimai and Sasha's Last Day

Matua Jarrod stood to mihi to Tangimai and Sasha and wish them well at their new kura.

Tangi brought her tablet to school to take lots of pictures of everyone.  We all signed her hoody as well.

The kaiako bought hot chips to share and we had a karakia before we ate.

We will miss you Tangimai and Sasha! Best of luck at your next kura!

Tri-Star Gym Visit

I haere mātau o Te Akoamanga Tekau mā Whitu ki te Tri-Star Gym hai whakaoti i tō mātau kowae takahurihuri mō te hākinakina.  We went to the Tri-Star Gym to finish off our P.E. unit on gymnastics.

Great listening!

We were taught by Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner David Bishop!

Tētahi Kōrero Whakakata a John-Henry

John-Henry told us this funny joke that he made up on the way to the Tri-star Gym:

"How do you get a dragon out of a tree with no wings?"

"You give it a chicken wing!"

Prepared Speech Competition - Whakataetae Whaikōrero

I tuhi whaikōrero ngā tamariki o Te Rūma Tekau mā Whitu.  I tīmata ngā tama ki te tauparapara:

"Ka tangi te tītī,
Ka tangi te kākā,
Ka tangi hoki ahau!
Tihei mauri ora!'

I tīmata ngā kotiro ki te maioha:

"E rau rangatira mā,
Ka rere atu taku reo pōhiri e..."

I tuhi ngā tamariki katoa i ā rātau kōrero ki ngā kāri paku - he mahi uaua kē tēnei!

All the tamariki in Room Seventeen wrote speeches.  The boys started with a short tauparapara and the girls started with a maioha.  Everyone wrote their speeches on to cue cards - this is harder than it looks!  I am so proud that everyone stood and delivered their speech in te reo Māori.

I kōrero a Hohpea mō te whutupōro rīki.
I kōrero a Tēcha mō tōna whānau.

I tū a Hohepa rāua ko Tēcha hai kanohi mō Te Rūma Tekau mā Whitu.  Ehara i te mea he mahi māmā te tū i mua i te katoa me te kōrero Māori, engari i tutuki pai.  Tau kē kōrua!

Hohepa and Tēcha represented our class.  It's not an easy thing to do but they were excellent!

Toi, Wāhanga Rua - 'Tone'

Tirohia tō mātau tuna!  Nā ngā mahi a Warren Pōhatu te hiwanga.  Look at our big huge eel!  We were inspired by the work of Warren Pōhatu.  He uses bold outlines, lots of tone and subtle koru patterns when he draws animals.  We read LOTS of his stories and looked carefully at his art, then we all worked together to paint our tuna.
